Description

The Restdown homestead was originally built in c. 1870, in the small town of Weethalie, near West Wyalong in the NSW Riverina. The homestead was carefully dismantled, each piece numbered, so that the cottage could be reassembled in its current resting place - a secluded 4.2 acre property on the slopes of Barrengarry Mountain, close to the beautiful village of Kangaroo Valley.

Environmentally sustainable, Restdown has been carefully restored to maintain its historical presence. The power supply is anything but old fashioned. Restdown is not connected to the mains electricity grid. A 24V system consisting of solar panels, inverter and 100amph gel battery bank is supported by a 6KVA back up diesel generator, along with a separate hot water system and bottled gas. The shed which houses the electronics and the solar battery bank, is the original kitchen building from the Restdown homestead in Weethalie.
